An Ames minister will receive a humanitarian award next month at the Iowa Hunger Summit sponsored by the World Food Prize organization. Rev. Russ Melby, will be awarded the Robert D. Ray Iowa SHARES Humanitarian Award for his 30-year career fighting hunger in Iowa and around the world. Melby organized Church World Service (CROP) Hunger Walks in Iowa. The walks involved half a million Iowans and raised $12 million communities to benefit Iowa food banks and hunger relief abroad, according to a news release.
