Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity will honor several individuals and one company with its annual Key Awards Thursday evening.

The recognition event and dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center at Veterans Memorial and will recognize businesses and individuals helping Habitat for Humanity serve low-income families and work toward eliminating poverty housing in the community. The winners are: 


Individual Key Award: 

  • Stan and Dotty Thurston for their contributions to ReStore through the "It Starts at Home" capital campaign, and for their continued support of decent and affordable housing in Greater Des Moines, as well as in El Salvador.

Community Key Award:

  • Tanner Kinzler for contributing time, talent, materials and financial support to Habitat for Humanity.

  • Mary Louise Neugent for her volunteerism in Des Moines and in El Salvador, co-chairing the 2013 Women Build, her support of the "It Starts At Home" capital campaign and her service as a Habitat board member.

  • Thomas Urban for his work in Des Moines neighborhoods and bringing awareness to the need for change and growth in Des Moines' low-income neighborhoods.

Corporate Key Award:

  • Principal Financial Group Inc. for its house and Rock the Block sponsorships, volunteerism by employees and financial commitment to investing in the Des Moines community.
