A panel of regional experts discussed the challenges facing Greater Des Moines' projected growth to 1 million people at the Business Record's Power Breakfast this morning at the Embassy Club in Downtown Des Moines.

Panelists talked about how growth will strain our infrastructure and transportation systems, how the demographic makeup of our workforce will change, and what strategies we should pursue to continue and accelerate growth.

The event, which was moderated by Business Record Publisher Chris Conetzkey, featured the following panelists:

Elisabeth Buck - president, United Way of Central Iowa.
Angela Connolly - Polk County supervisor.
Liesl Eathington - economist, Iowa State University.
Zachary Mannheimer - principal community planner, McClure Engineering Co.
Gene Meyer - president, Greater Des Moines Partnership.

To kick off the event, we asked each of the panelists to identify one way in which they envision Des Moines’ growth will strain our community.
