UPDATE: 
The Des Moines City Council on Sept. 9 approved rezoning the tract to neighborhood pedestrian commercial district from general retail and commercial. Christensen Development is working with Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore to determine whether anything can be salvaged from the two structures that are on the property. When that is done, the buildings will be razed. Construction of the houses is expected to begin in spring.
