Des Moines Flying Service lands in new home at DSM International Airport
Thursday, April 1, 2021 10:54 AM
Des Moines Flying Service has moved into a new 26,100-square-foot building on the south side of the Des Moines International Airport as part of the airport’s new terminal project. According to a news release, the move was completed March 22. Planning for the more than $8.7 million project began in 2018 with the purpose of opening space on the northeast side of the airport for the new terminal. Turner Construction Co. was awarded the construction contract in January 2020. The new facility provides 35% more hangar space for aircraft and operations. “This new facility is larger than the previous operating footprint, and it is laid out well for us to provide optimum service to our customers,” said Steve Thompson, president of Des Moines Flying Service. “It allows for more efficient processes, plus our entire team will be in the same building enhancing collaboration and streamlining workflow.” The former facility will be demolished in the coming years as the terminal project continues. “It’s exciting to see the plan coming to fruition with Des Moines Flying Service moving to the south side of the airport and into their new facility,” said Kevin Foley, Airport Authority executive director. The move into the new facility comes after a change in ownership for
