188 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and LawTuesday’s primary set the candidates in a variety of federal, statewide and county-level races. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Here is a roundup of results from Iowa races, as reported by the Des Moines Register.
Businessman Zach Lahn won the five-candidate Republican primary for Iowa governor, defeating U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra. He will face Democrat Rob Sand in November.
Zach Wahls lost to Josh Turek in the Democratic primary for retiring Sen. Joni Ernst’s seat, and U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson won the Republican primary over former state Sen. Jim Carlin. Democrat Sarah Trone-Garriot and incumbent Rep. Zach Nunn ran uncontested in their primaries for U.S. House District 3.
In Polk County, former state representative John Forbes beat incumbent Matt McCoy in the Democratic primary for Polk County Board of Supervisors District 1.
District 4 and District 5 supervisors Tom Hockensmith and Angela Connolly, respectively, are retiring this year. Heather Jones-Brown beat Des Moines city councilor Joe Gatto in the Democratic primary for District 4, and state Sen. Izaah Knox, who is also executive director of Urban Dreams, ran uncontested for the District 5 seat.
