AARP Iowa is inviting local eligible nonprofit organizations and governments across the state to apply for the 2026 AARP Community Challenge through March 4. The grants fund quick-action projects to help communities become more livable by improving public spaces, transportation, housing, digital connections and more. Now in its 10th year, AARP will double its investment, awarding over $8 million in grants nationwide as part of its Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts to improve quality of life for residents, especially those age 50 or older. All projects must be completed by Dec. 15, 2026. “Through the Community Challenge grant program, AARP Iowa works closely with local residents, advocates and policymakers to make our communities better places to live for people of all ages,” AARP Iowa State Director Michael Wagler said in a news release. “We look forward to the opportunity this year to provide increased support to Iowa communities of all sizes.” This booklet highlights past Iowa Challenge Grantees and their projects.  AARP Iowa will host an informational webinar about the Community Challenge grant program at 1 p.m. Jan. 29. Since its debut in 2017, the Community Challenge has invested $24.3 million in 2,100 livability projects.
