The Altoona City Council last week approved the site plan for a fourth Casey’s General Stores Inc. convenience store in the 13,000-resident suburb. City Administrator Jeff Mark said construction is expected to start soon at the newest Casey’s location, adjacent to the Menard’s store on Hubbell Avenue.

Casey’s operates two stores on Eighth Street, the main east-west artery through Altoona, and is building a nearby replacement for a store on First Avenue at the Interstate 80 interchange.

In other action, the council set June 21 as the date for a public hearing about the proposed issuance of $4 million in general obligation bonds. Mark said the bonds will be designated for civic projects, including phase two of the soccer complex and the resurfacing of two roads at the edge of Altoona.

Mark said a planned office building at The Shoppes at Prairie Crossing is on hold for the time being. The proposed building would be the second structure in the development, joining Bass Pro Shops.
