Altoona’s Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a site plan
Altoona’s Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a site plan submitted by Hy-Vee Inc. for a new store.
The 82,479-square-foot building will be constructed at 100 Eighth St. S.W., adjacent to the company’s old store. Hy-Vee hopes to start construction as soon as possible.
The City Council approved the site plan at its Nov. 5 meeting. The old store will remain open until the new one is completed, then it will be demolished. There were no comments from the public at the planning and zoning commission meeting or the city council meeting.
Hy-Vee officials estimate an additional 150 employees will be needed to run the new store.
