American Packaging to invest $7.8M in Story City facility
The Iowa Economic Development Authority board approved awards to two projects during its meeting today.
American Packaging Corp. plans to spend $7.8 million on a 20,000-square-foot addition to its facility in Story City, as well as the purchase of new equipment. IEDA awarded the company tax benefits through the High Quality Jobs program, including $100,000 in investment tax credits and $95,000 in a sales and use tax refund.
There will be 25 new jobs created through the building expansion, with 13 incentivized at $33.67 an hour. Story City is offering the company a tax abatement for the project.
Construction is expected to begin this month and be complete in September 2026.
The company produces packaging for several industries, from pet care to lawn care. The expansion will allow American Packaging Corp. to expand its flexible pouch and bag production.
The company was founded in 1902 in Philadelphia and expanded to its current location in Columbus, Wis., in 1972. After a long period of growth, American Packaging opened a flexographic printing center in Story City in 1997.
Tourism grant
IEDA also awarded the city of Tabor with a $90,000 grant to help build a splashpad at the city’s park. Total project cost is $326,848. Tabor is 40 miles southeast of Omaha, Neb.
Daisy Brand extension
Daisy Brand has requested a 30-day extension of its contract with the IEDA. The deal is awaiting a signature from the community of Boone. In April 2024, Daisy Brand was awarded $67.185 million in state and local incentives for its new, $626.57 million facility in Boone.
