Harrisvaccines Inc., an Ames-based pharmaceutical company, received the Iowa Life Sciences Company of the Year award from the Technology Association of Iowa. The 6-year-old company primarily focuses on developing vaccines for diseases affecting animals, including the economically devastating swine influenza virus. The company was recently chosen to provide expertise in RNA manufacturing for a U.S. Department of Defense contract to develop and produce a vaccine against the deadly Ebola and Marburg viruses, considered to be potential biological terrorism agents.
