Striking Anderson Erickson Dairy employees returned to work late Monday evening after the company and the Teamsters Union agreed to meet Oct. 3 to discuss union members’ health care benefits, The Des Moines Register reported. Union members voted to strike Sunday and set up pickets across the street from the AE plant on Hubbell Avenue. AE had planned to staff the plant with replacement workers. The strike was voted by 300 members of Local 120 when the two sides couldn’t agree on a new contract, the latest offer being a wage freeze and increased contributions to the employee health care plan. The most recent four-year contract between AE and the 300 Teamster members expired in March. The new contract required increases in employee contributions to health care plans as well as a wage freeze.
