The board of directors of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines has approved a plan for resuming operations of the Ankeny YMCA at its current facility, beginning Aug. 23. The facility at 1102 N. Ankeny Blvd. has been closed since flash flooding damaged the building on June 30. A task force appointed by the board will work with the school district and the community on necessary repairs to the Y facility. Some areas of the building will remain closed until reconstruction work is completed; the weight room, the cycling studio, the pool and some cardio equipment are expected to be available. The Y is in the process of developing modified schedules for group exercise, swim instruction and Learn & Play; those schedules will be published on its website, mobile app and Facebook page on Tuesday.
