Attorney General Files Suit Against Bulk Petroleum Corp.
Attorney General Tom Miller filed a lawsuit today against Bulk Petroleum Corporation for alleged environmental violations concerning 61 underground storage tanks at seventeen retail gasoline station sites in Des Moines, Davenport, Blue Grass, Le Claire, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Burlington, Ames, and Malcolm, Iowa.
The lawsuit, which was filed Thursday morning in Polk County District Court, alleges that Bulk Petroleum repeatedly has failed to comply with requirements to prevent corrosion of steel UST systems, failed to prevent and detect releases, failed to report and investigate releases, and failed to maintain UST compliance records.
“There are about 7,800 regulated underground storage tanks buried at about 2,800 UST sites all over the state,” Miller said. “Most owners and operators comply with their obligations to monitor and inspect tanks, maintain tanks, and prevent petroleum leaks and spills.”
