The 24th annual Best Development Awards, hosted by 1000 Friends of Iowa, is accepting nominations through Nov. 21 for projects that demonstrate responsible land use and community impact across the state. The program honors Iowa developments integrating quality of life, sustainability and smart planning in categories including new and renovated civic and commercial projects, mixed use, renewable energy, residential, stormwater management, transportation/complete streets, placemaking/greenspace, brownfield revitalization and innovative leadership. Anyone may nominate or self-nominate for a $25 fee through the 1000 Friends of Iowa website. Winners, selected by independent jurors in December, will be recognized at an awards ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda on Jan. 20, 2026, during the state legislative session.
