Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa launches ‘The Big Draft’ to recruit new mentors
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa (BBBSIA) has launched “The Big Draft,” a 60-day volunteer recruitment campaign in partnership with the NFL’s Inspire Change initiative, aimed at enlisting 60 new mentors, or “Bigs,” by May 9. Modeled after the NFL Draft, the campaign seeks to address a growing mentorship gap, as one in three youth nationwide lack consistent adult guidance. The effort begins March 9 and includes events such as an NFL Draft Watch Party on April 23 at the Youth Mentoring Center and a Big/Little flag football game on May 9 at Duke Williams Stadium. “Mentorship is an essential part of youth development. The impact is real. To be a mentor, your skill set, education and financial status DO NOT matter. What does matter is having a caring spirit, being consistent, and being present” Bridget Cravens-Neely, CEO, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa, said in a prepared statement.
