McAninch Corp. equipment is going international after an auction Nov. 12 that helped the super-sized excavator reduce inventory.
After completing an airport construction project in Branson, Mo., and facing a downturn in the housing and road building markets, the company teamed with Ziegler Inc., a regional dealer of Caterpillar Inc. equipment, to conduct the sale.
The auction, which included an opportunity to bid on the Internet, drew interest from around the world, said Dave Cox, vice president of finance and treasurer for Cat Auction Services.
Doug McAninch, company president and chief operating officer, noted that the auction was a high-tech affair, with a Jumbotron on site and the Internet presence.
“The last auction I had been to had a hay rack and public address system,” he said.
In all, 279 machines were sold, with most, but not all, of the inventory supplied by McAninch, Cox said. He did not have a dollar value for the equipment that was sold.
About 23 percent of the sales came from bids made on the Internet, Cox said.
“Some of those were international buyers,” he said.
McAninch said the auction was a “big business opportunity,” allowing the company to downsize while also gradually moving to machines that produced lower emissions and were more environmentally friendly.
He noted that the auction offered buyers several options, including the ability to finance their purchases through Caterpillar and purchase warranties and parts on site.
