BPC adds journalism veterans Stoner, Edwards
Carroll Stoner, who has worked at the top levels of newspaper and magazine publishing, will join Business Publications Corp., publisher of the Business Record, on June 18 as editorial director. Also, Lynda Edwards, with writing credits ranging from Nightly Business Report on PBS to Rolling Stone, has been hired as a senior staff writer for the Business Record.
Stoner will oversee BPC’s full range of quarterly and annual publications, including dsm magazine, as well as the weekly paper.
Stoner spent the past seven years as the travel and entertaining editor at Meredith Corp.’s Traditional Home, a leading shelter magazine with a circulation of nearly 1 million.
Stoner also has worked as a freelance writer in Chicago, served as features editor and then the assistant managing editor at the Chicago Sun-Times and was the features editor at the Philadelphia Inquirer.
While she was the features editor at the Sun-Times, the paper won the Penney-Missouri Award for the best features section in the nation. She also has written and published several nonfiction books.
Edwards comes to the Business Record from a stint as a creative services editor at Meredith Integrated Marketing. Her career has taken her to Florida, Mississippi and Arizona, with stops at American Lawyer Media, Associated Press and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, where her beat included Bentonville-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
In 2000, Edwards won the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies’ national prize for features writing; in 2003, she received a business reporting award from the National Association of Black Journalists; and in 2005, the Society of Business Editors and Writers presented her with a prize for deadline reporting on a story about a security breach affecting hundreds of thousands of credit cards.
