Gov. Terry Branstad today said he hopes a new broadband initiative will attract $2 million in public and private support. About one-third of Iowa has fixed broadband service, while 75 percent of Iowans who have the chance to use it sign up. “I want to connect every acre of Iowa with robust, high-speed internet service in all forms, because it will help our communities preserve what is best about our past and create new opportunities for our bright future,” Branstad said at his weekly news conference. “The communities that will thrive in this new economy are those that take every opportunity to organize and continually plan to improve their technological capabilities.” The work would involve developing technology plans for local communities.
