This is a full-time position that will lead the Business Record’s production team, which is charged with elevating the look, feel and user experience of the Business Record’s products and brand. The production team works closely with our sales, editorial, events and audience development teams to coordinate, enhance and support key initiatives. We are looking for a leader with strong design and project management skills that can work collaboratively through a team and independently on a variety of projects. In addition to having a strong background in print publishing, this person needs to be able to lead and embrace new digital publishing platforms and strategies. Candidates must thrive in a deadline oriented business, be creative, self-managed professionals who want to join a company with a rich history and a mission of helping Greater Des Moines businesses do business best.
Job tasks:
– Manage a two-person production team
– Assist team in day-to-day responsibilities: ad production and spec ad campaigns, page layout and design, website and landing page creation, enewsletter production, special magazine design, creating/updating marketing materials, fulfilling misc. requests.
– Create impositions (page-by-page layout of a project including advertising and editorial) for all editions of Business Record and related products.
– Communicate with external printers and vendors about upcoming projects, deadlines, technical situations, etc.
– Lead meetings between production team and sales and editorial teams to review previous work, prepare for future editions, and new projects.
– Track ad flow, assign incoming ads, file approved ads, create late ad and editorial reports.
– Ensure visual communication and brand standards are met.
– Create and maintain company production calendar.
– Support, attend and enhance our live events.
– Support the brands audience development and communication needs.
– Spearhead troubleshooting/platform issues when needed.
Requirements/Skills:
– Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, etc.)
– Strong visual design sense
– Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at once
– Attention to detail, and ability to uphold high quality and accuracy standards
– Strong understanding for print and web design specs and best practices
– Extreme attention to deadlines, timelines and production schedules
– Willingness to learn new skills and discover new technologies
– Ability to use digital tools to enhance our publishing capabilities
– HTML/CSS/HTML5/Wordpress skills a major plus
– Photo/video/audio collection and production a major plus
– Copywriting and social media skills a major plus
