Casey’s providing help to areas hit hard by derecho
Casey’s General Stores is helping areas of the state that were hit hardest by the Aug. 10 derecho, delivering bottles of water, making donations to two local food banks and providing pizza to relief workers. According to a news release, Casey’s delivered a truckload of 19,500 bottles of water to the American Red Cross in Cedar Rapids. It also sent water and snacks to the American Red Cross for volunteers in Central Iowa and Cedar Rapids. The company is also donating $10,000 to two food banks — $5,000 to the River Bend Food Bank in the Quad Cities and $5,000 to HACAP in Cedar Rapids. Casey’s also announced it will be launching an in-store fundraising campaign starting Sept. 8 to benefit Feeding America and 58 local food banks across the Midwest during Hunger Action Month. Casey’s also provided 2,000 slices of pizza to front-line energy workers that came from all over to support Alliant Energy’s recovery work in Iowa “This was a devastating storm and the recovery continues in many towns that Casey’s calls home,” said Katie Petru, director of communications for Casey’s. “Our guests are the people you see stepping up for each other in these tough times, so we have been working to be here for them.”
