Casey’s, Wells Fargo make donations in honor of fallen officers
Casey’s General Stores Inc. is donating $50,000 to establish two scholarship funds at Simpson College in memory of the two Central Iowa police officers who were killed this month. Des Moines Police Sgt. Anthony Beminio and Urbandale Police Officer Justin Martin were graduates of Simpson’s Criminal Justice Program — Beminio in 2001, Martin in 2015. They were killed in their squad cars while on duty early Nov. 2. Another major employer in Greater Des Moines, Wells Fargo & Co., also donated $50,000 in memory of the officers. Last week Wells Fargo President and CEO Tim Sloan announced the company has made two separate donations of $25,000 to the memorial funds established for the officers’ families through the Des Moines Police Officer Burial Association and the Urbandale Police Protective and Benevolent Association. Additionally, Coldwell Banker Mid-America Group is providing blue light bulbs to the public free of cost and encouraging residents to show their support by using them to light the outside of their homes. The bulbs are available at any of the five Mid-America Group offices in the Des Moines metro area and at all Coldwell Banker open houses.
