Central Iowa Shelter and Services, the state’s largest homeless shelter, has hired Melissa O’Neil as its new CEO. O’Neil starts her new job today. O’Neil has a strong nonprofit background and most recently worked at Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates. She also has experience in fundraising, program development and staff development. She succeeds Tony Timm, who resigned from the position in late 2015. “We are excited to have an energetic new leader who will be able to move the organization forward,” said Justin Schoen, the chair of the CISS board of directors. “Melissa is eager to work with our staff, volunteers and community partners to implement new ideas so that we may be even more effective in serving those in need.” CISS serves more than 5,000 individuals annually, providing low-barrier emergency overnight shelter, hot meals, case management, a medical clinic, clothing and a food pantry to its clients.
