A new business park could be in the works if plans are approved by the city of Des Moines.

A platting request for more than 40 acres of land at the northeast corner of Southwest 63rd Street and McKinley Avenue is under review at the city.

Cornerstone Family Church, 3114 S.W. 61st St. in Des Moines, is working with Grubb & Ellis/Mid-America Commercial to convert the 47 acres of land into five commercial or business park lots.

Terry McClannahan, the church’s director of operations, said Cornerstone bought the land three years ago with hopes to expand the church at that location.

McClannahan said the church changed its plans and decided to build next to its current facility, leaving land with a price tag of more than $2 million sitting unoccupied.

Dean Weitenhagen of Grubb & Ellis/Mid-America Commercial, who is working with the church to sell the land, said two parties have signed purchase agreements for the north 20 acres of land, but wouldn’t release their names.

The remaining 27 acres will be divided into smaller lots pending approval from the city. Weitenhagen said he hopes to have the plans to the city by the second week in February.
