Clear Channel sells more than 200 radio stations
Clear Channel Communications Inc. announced that it has signed definitive agreements with various parties to sell more than 200 stations in 38 markets as part of its goal to divest 448 radio stations in 88 markets. So far, Clear Channel has proposals pending to sell 362 radio stations in 72 markets for approximately $820 million.
WHO Radio has not been affected by the sales. Van Harden, program director of the radio station, said when Clear Channel announced it would sell about 400 radio stations, it decided not to sell any stations in the top 100 markets, which includes WHO. The only Iowa markets affected by the sales are Burlington, Mason City and Fort Dodge, Harden said.
Clear Channel expects the most recent transactions to clear in the second quarter of 2007. It continues to look for buyers for 86 stations in 16 markets, none of which are in Iowa.
