The Animal Rescue League of Iowa has started the second phase of its facility expansion with construction underway on the state’s first rescue intake and rehabilitation center. The $1 million project includes converting a former barn into a dedicated recovery space for animals rescued from cruelty and neglect, installing new floors, kennels and a medical intake area designed for low-stress treatment. Additional features will include upgraded HVAC systems, eight “Behavior Bungalows” for dogs needing behavioral support and two outdoor play yards. The new center is expected to expand the ARL’s ability to respond to emergency rescue calls, which currently number several per week and enhance care for the nearly 1,000 animals rescued across Iowa so far this year.
