Neumann Bros. Inc. will begin construction this week on a new 44,000-square-foot research center for Kemin Industries Inc. at its campus in southeast Des Moines.

The new facility is part of the company’s global expansion plan announced in October 2010 that will double Kemin’s physical presence in Des Moines within the next five years.

The research center, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2013, will provide shared laboratories with an open design to facilitate collaboration among the company’s scientists and will eventually connect to a new global headquarters building.

The privately owned biosciences company develops and manufactures health and nutritional supplement ingredients for use in human and animal products.
