The grocer’s parent company, Foods Inc., is liquidating its assets after filing for bankruptcy protection in November and saying as part of that filing that Kansas City, Kan.-based Associated Wholesale Grocers had made an offer for the majority of its 11 stores in Greater Des Moines. The closed auction began on Monday and was to conclude by Wednesday. Foods Inc. bankruptcy attorney Jeffrey Goetz filed a motion that day to extend the auction, writing, “The proposed modifications are in the nature of purchaser/bidder protections. The debtor, in consultation with the committee, believes modification of the second round auction and bid procedures will enhance the auction process, generate a more robust auction environment, and be in the best interests of the bankruptcy estate.”
