The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs has approved $12,100 for an archaeological study at the site of the Seth Dayton House Stagecoach Inn near Bouton in Dallas County. The information from the study will used to nominate the site to the National Register of Historic Places. The Stagecoach Inn is owned by the Dallas County Conservation Board, which has been renovating it for public use. The building was rebuilt in brick in 1868 after the original wood structure was destroyed by fire. The project was among several in the state that received a total of $100,000 for historic preservation work.
