The Historic East Village Association and the Des Moines East and South Chamber of Commerce have formed a partnership to improve the effectiveness of the burgeoning neighborhood.

The organizations share a common mission to see the current growth and development continue, they said in a release.

With the partnership, the chamber will take over many administrative duties which have been solely volunteer-driven in the past, chamber President and CEO Sadie Trytten said. The chamber, which now has its office in the East Village, also announced it has formed a partnership with The Friends of SW 9th, a new nonprofit organization that is assuming responsibilities for promoting and improving Southwest Ninth Street.

Glenn Lyons, executive director of the Neighborhood Development Corp. and Friends of SW 9th board president, said, “We are confident this increase in staffing will allow us to continue to improve the SW Ninth Street corridor by focusing more of our time on the strategic development efforts.”
