Des Moines Parks and Recreation seeks mural artist for Cheatom Park

137 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, Government Policy and LawThe city of Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department is calling for local artists or artist teams to design two court murals at Cheatom Park, one for the basketball court and one for the reconstructed futsal court, as part of the park’s 2026 improvement project. Funded by a Bravo Greater Des Moines public art grant and donations from Friends of Des Moines Parks and Musco Lighting, the Cheatom Park Mural Project aims to create an engaging and community-focused art space that celebrates the neighborhood and enhances the park’s identity. Artists residing or working in Central Iowa counties can submit qualifications through DSM.city/CheatomMuralRFQ until March 9 at 5 p.m. Up to five finalists will receive $500 each to develop proposals, and the selected artist will receive a commission of up to $9,500 for the final design.
