USA Triathlon has announced it will bring its Nationals event to Des Moines in 2027 and 2028 under a long-term partnership with Catch Des Moines. The three-day event, scheduled for Aug. 6-8, 2027, and Aug. 4-6, 2028, will include the Sprint and Olympic Distance National Championships, the Paratriathlon National Championships, the Mixed Triathlon Relay and an open water swim, with races staged around Gray’s Lake Park and Water Works Park. Registration for 2027 events will open this summer, while qualifiers for the championship races will be determined through performance at local sanctioned events. “This announcement is a testament to the reputation our community has built over decades,” Trina Flack, president and CEO of Catch Des Moines, said in a news release. “Our long-term partnership with USA Triathlon celebrates our rich triathlon history while positioning our city at the center of the sport.” A video of the announcement is available online.
