Des Moines Area Community College today released a request for proposals seeking the next operating entity of the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families, a career and education center serving Central Iowans. DMACC announced in September its board of directors were considering selling the center’s property to local nonprofit St. Vincent de Paul Des Moines, which would become the new operator, but suspended the potential sale in October in response to public feedback. DMACC cited funding challenges for the center, opened in 2012, with President Rob Denson saying its future “depends on its ability to become self-sufficient or take on a new partner.” Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, governmental entities and accredited educational institutions. The proposal due date is Feb. 28 with an anticipated transition date of July 1. Applicants must be available to attend one of two building tours on either Jan. 14 from 10-11:30 a.m. or Jan. 28 from 2-3:30 p.m. According to the announcement, the center is seeking a partner that aligns with the center’s values, and is “prepared to lead this extraordinary community resource with care, humility and commitment.” The RFP is available to view in full at dmacc.edu/ekdc
