Joe DeHart

Joe DeHart has been named the new provost of Des Moines Area Community College’s Newton Campus. DeHart, who begins his new role Jan. 3, is currently DMACC’s executive director of Institutional Effectiveness, with responsibility for overseeing accreditation and assessment of academic programs, research and strategic planning. He will succeed Mary Entz, who is retiring as the Newton provost later this month. One of his first major tasks will be to work with administrators to develop the $9 million Maytag campus that was recently donated to DMACC. A graduate of Newton High School, DeHart has a bachelor of arts in general sciences from the University of Iowa and a master’s and Ph.D. in education administration from Iowa State University. He has worked for DMACC for 15 years. His wife, Rebecca, is a professor of mathematics at the Newton Campus. Their four sons each have a DMACC connection: Paul is a DMACC graduate, David is a current culinary arts student, Ryan is enrolled in the welding program, and youngest son Reese is taking math and calculus classes through DMACC’s Career Advantage program.
