DMACC receiving $2M in federal funding for new trades center
Des Moines Area Community College announced that it received $2 million in federal funding to support construction of its $34 million, 72,000-square-foot Trades & Industry Center on its Ankeny campus, which is expected to open in January 2027. The $2 million investment will funnel from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and was approved by the House Appropriations Committee earlier this year. The building will replace two aging buildings, both built in the 1960s, and provide students with industry-standard labs, shared work bays with tools and large machinery and modern classroom spaces. According to a news release, the new facility will house five of DMACC’s most in-demand programs: Building Trades, HVAC, Diesel Technology, Fire Science, and Iowa’s only Ford Training Center.
