The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation has awarded one of its highest honors, the Lawrence and Eula Hagie Heritage Award, to conservationist Thomas Rosburg of Drake University. Rosburg has donated 1,350 hours to a prairie restoration project on private land statewide. A longtime professor of ecology and botany at Drake, Rosburg organized 165 events in 22 separate counties from 2004 to 2016. He worked with landowners to protect 51 remnant prairie and savanna ecosystems. Some 170 Drake students received hands-on management experience and ecological training while working over 2,625 hours under Rosburg’s mentorship.
