Loras College, a Catholic liberal arts college in Dubuque, has received an estate gift of more than $3.2 million from the late Rev. William Wilkie, a 1950 graduate and professor emeritus of history. The gift will supplement the William E. Wilkie Fund to bring the total endowment to more than $3.5 million. The fund will support six scholarship programs and awards at the college, including the William E. Wilkie Liturgical Program, William E. Wilkie Double Major Scholarship, Wilkie Classic Film Collection Fund, Professor William Green Senior History Award, Monsignor William D. Green Award and the Roger Rechenmacher Scholarship Award for Creativity. Wilkie retired from the college in 1998 after 41 years and was named a professor emeritus. He retired from the priesthood in 2000 and died in May 2017 at the age of 87. “Father Wilke touched many lives at Loras through his teaching and passion for the arts, specifically music,” Jim Collins, president of Loras College, said. “His legacy at Loras was already solidified, and this will ensure it endures for generations of students.”
