EMC Insurance is installing a new logo on the side of its 20-story company headquarters in downtown Des Moines, adding another element to the city’s skyline.

The 500-square-foot sign will show the EMC letters in the company’s signature blue color with LED lighting.

Installation began on Nov. 3. The letters, which together measure 15 feet tall and 34 feet wide, will be manually hoisted from the building’s 16th floor balcony. Installation is expected to take several weeks to complete.

Mounted on the south side of the building at 700 Walnut St., the sign will replace EMC’s previous signage at 717 Mulberry St. and reflects the company’s new brand identity, a news release said.

“This sign is more than a visual upgrade, it’s a symbol of EMC’s continued investment in our headquarters city,” Scott Jean, president and CEO, said in a news release. “We’re proud to reinforce our presence in Des Moines and celebrate our legacy as a major employer, community supporter, and business leader.”

According to the release, the new sign complements other recent investments the company has made, including the EMC Expo Center and EMC Downtown Park.
