Facebook has opened registration for the June 4 kickoff of Community Boost at Franklin Junior High School. The event, part of a national series, will provide digital skills training.

A survey by Morning Consult of small businesses in Des Moines found:

• Most small-business managers, 94 percent, said they think a social media presence for their company is important, but just over one-fifth viewed their skills as excellent.
• More than 9 of 10 thought that creating content that works well on mobile phones is important, but just 13 percent thought they had excellent skills in that area.
•  Ninety percent thought candidates’ digital skills were important in hiring, but barely over half consider where the candidate went to school a top consideration
