Fareway plans freezer expansion at Boone distribution facility
Fareway Stores Inc. is adding a new 105,000-square-foot freezer facility at its Boone distribution center to support the company’s continued expansion and long-term growth.
Fareway leaders and local officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project on Monday in Boone.
The freezer expansion will nearly double pallet capacity, improving functionality in dual temperature environments and adding additional dock space. The current freezer space will be repurposed into additional dry storage space.
According to a news release, these upgrades will support Fareway’s growing retail footprint as well as future investments in technology and automation at the Boone campus.
Fareway currently operates 143 stores in seven states and employs over 13,000 people. Recently added locations include new Iowa stores in Granger, Lisbon and Denver, a new store in Coal Valley, Ill., and the grocer’s first Kansas store in Basehor, Kan.
“This project reflects our continued commitment to remain the best in meat and grocery, by ensuring we have the infrastructure to support our current locations and future growth,” Reynolds W. Cramer, CEO of Fareway said in the release. “This is also an investment in Boone and in our employees that call the Boone area home.”
The contractor for the project is Gleeson Constructors and Engineers. Construction is in progress with completion set for summer 2027.
