Federal housing programs available to Dallas County side of Urbandale after council vote

122 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and Law, Real Estate and DevelopmentThe Urbandale City Council has voted to join the Central Iowa Regional Housing Authority, making residents in the Dallas County side of the city eligible for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Housing Choice Voucher and Home Ownership programs. “We have more than 45,000 residents in Urbandale and more than half a million in the Greater Des Moines area,” Mayor Bob Andeweg said in a statement. “The demand for housing options will only continue to increase as we grow. We’ll continue to look for ways to provide affordable housing for Urbandale residents.” The housing authority serves Dallas and five other counties. Urbandale has been a member of the Des Moines Municipal Housing Agency, which operates in Polk County, since 1990.
