A former House majority leader warned his Republican colleagues that they won’t get everything they want, even with control of the Legislature and the governor’s office, because the GOP has its own disagreements, the Cedar Rapids Gazette reported“You can get some good things done, but it’s not all roses and sunshine,” said Brent Siegrist, who was House majority leader the last time  the GOP controlled everything. Gov. Terry Branstad welcomes the chance to sidestep the roadblocks he faced in the formerly Democrat-controlled Senate. Twenty years ago, the last time the stars aligned like this, Branstad also was governor. Republicans passed an across-the-board 10 percent income tax reduction in 1997 and an additional $85 million in tax reductions for various groups in 1998. They also passed a ban on same-sex marriages, stuck down by the Iowa Supreme Court in 2009. Some analysts expect action on collective bargaining laws for public employees, voter identification requirements and abortion regulations in the next couple of sessions.
