Freelance Pros officially launched their network last Thursday, with an event at Ingersoll Square that allowed the group’s members, who include writers, graphic designers, artists and photographers, to meet with companies and agencies.

Many companies find freelancers through word-of-mouth. Freelance Pros co-founder Julie West said, “This is a one-stop shop for them to pick and choose.”

West said the concept began when she began receiving too much freelance graphic design work from Meredith Corp. but did not want to turn clients down because of the risk that they wouldn’t call back in the future. “It’s a group of people who we come to rely on when there’s too much work, so we don’t have to turn down a project,” she said.

West has received interest from several other freelancers and the network has established a group of five leaders who will select applicants to ensure that the group does not have too many members in one area and that everyone produces high-quality work. Membership is free and the group will meet regularly to network.
