299 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, Retail and BusinessThe Iowa Games and the Greater Des Moines Partnership said Thursday that an inaugural Des Moines Corporate Games will take place in the Metro from June 1 through July 31. The program aims to enable and support teamwork, company pride, volunteerism and physical fitness through healthy competition.
The Corporate Games will serve as a friendly competition between companies and organizations in Greater Des Moines, the Partnership said in a release. Companies will be grouped in divisions with similar-sized companies and earn points based on event participation, placing and volunteerism. The winners of each division will be recognized at an awards celebration at the Iowa State Fair, where each company will receive a Des Moines Corporate Games traveling trophy.
“We expect this to be a community-wide wellness initiative that will make all of our employees healthier and further promote an environment of teamwork throughout Greater Des Moines,” said Meg Schneider, senior vice president of regional business development at the Partnership.
The Des Moines Corporate Games is open to any company, municipality or government agency or department in Greater Des Moines. Participants must be a full- or part-time employee, intern or retiree of the organization. Participants must be 18 years of age.
“We’re excited to team up with the Greater Des Moines Partnership in establishing the Des Moines Corporate Games,” said Chuck Long, CEO and executive director of the Iowa Sports Foundation. “This collaboration brings an exciting new event to the area that promotes corporate team building and friendly competition, while encouraging Iowans to enjoy the health benefits of sports and recreation.”
The Des Moines Corporate Games will offer a variety of sports and events, including basketball, golf, dodgeball, track and field and yoga. For a full list of sports and events and to register, visit DMCorporateGames.org. Company registration deadline is April 8.
