Chlorum Solutions USA has signed an agreement to buy Eddyville-based Chlor-Alkali, a subsidiary of Cargill. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026.

The Eddyville facility produces sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid, and caustic soda using advanced membrane technology. Those materials are the foundational ingredients used in dozens of industries, including water treatment, food processing, pharmaceuticals, paper production, plastics manufacturing and more.

Chlorum Solutions aims to produce these chemicals within close proximity to the companies that use them in manufacturing and other processes. Doing so drastically reduces safety risks with transporting the chemicals and reduces supply chain challenges.

Cargill officials said the company remains committed to Eddyville and its employees.

“We are confident Chlorum is the right company to take forward Cargill’s chlor-alkali business in Eddyville because of our shared focus on customers, employees, safety and environmental stewardship. We look forward to partnering at this co-location,” said Daryn Kracht, managing director of starches, sweeteners and texturizers at Cargill Food NA. “Cargill remains deeply committed to the Eddyville community as we continue to operate our starch plant there.”

The Eddyville facility already serves multiple Cargill operations and regional manufacturers, making it a strategic fit for Chlorum’s proximity-based production approach, the companies reported.

“Safety and efficiency are top priorities,” Daniel Croce, CEO of Chlorum Solutions USA, stated in a press release. “The Eddyville facility is a key supplier to manufacturers across the Midwest, and is committed to preserving and strengthening that role.

“Our team brings extensive experience in operating chlor-alkali plants and we will invest in the plant’s long-term performance to ensure the region continues to have reliable local access to these essential products. All current employees will remain in their roles, maintaining continuity for customers and the strong culture of safety that Cargill established at this site.”
