Retired Des Moines police Lt. Joe Gonzalez was the guest of honor today during a luncheon sponsored by Bankers Trust Co. to celebrate Latino Heritage Month. Gonzalez served 42 years with the Des Moines Police Department before retiring in 2014. He was an integral liaison between the department and the Latino community, often serving as a translator when he was off-duty. Gonzalez now is executive director of Latino Resources Inc.
