Grading plan gets OK, but future unclear for WDM development
The city of West Des Moines last month approved a revised grading plan for Jordan Creek Business Park, a 20-acre plat located on the north and south sides of Village View Drive between South 60th and South 64th Streets.
Seven of eight lots on the property, owned by United Bank & Trust, have yet to be developed, said Lynn Twedt, a West Des Moines city planner, adding that the landowner’s intention for public improvements of the parcel’s infrastructure is “to bring consistency between construction plans and the site as it is” today.
Walters Cos. was the original developer of the property, which was taken over by the bank following the developer’s collapse.
“Because of the entire financial situation of the developer” it was unable to finish the grading, Twedt said. To her understanding, the intention to sell the individual lots to developers has not changed and, according to a Dec. 10 Plan and Zoning Commission staff report, the bank is “actively marketing the property.”
Chip Baltimore, vice president of Boone Bank & Trust Co., an affiliate of United Bank, declined to comment on the financial institution’s plans for land.
