Chalk up another bragging right for Greater Des Moines. The metro area ranked 48th among 190 communities evaluated nationally by the Gallup-Healthways Community Well-Being Rankings released today. The Des Moines-West Des Moines metro area scored relatively high in two of the five measures evaluated; it ranked ninth in financial wellness and 23rd in community wellness. In other measures, Greater Des Moines ranked 125th for purpose, 96th for social well-being and 116th in physical well-being. The scores are a subset of statewide data reported in January in which Iowa was ranked 14th among the states for well-being, up from 16th a year ago. Last year, Greater Des Moines ranked 51st in the community-level measure.
