Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity marked the completion of its 300th home on Saturday with a dedication ceremony in Des Moines. The house on Dixon Street will enable a 10-member refugee family who had been living in two separate apartments to live under one roof in a new six-bedroom house. Members of the family completed 24 hours of prepurchase education and 400 hours of sweat equity in the construction. The project was jointly sponsored by Wells Fargo and the Polk County Housing Trust Fund. Greater Des Moines Habitat has partnered with Wells Fargo since 1997 and in that time the company has donated more than $2.8 million and invested nearly 80,000 volunteer hours to the local organization. In 2016, Habitat has created 27 affordable homeownership opportunities and assisted more than 195 families through the Rock the Block repair program.
