The Iowa Chapter of Sierra Club’s challenge of the Dakota Access pipeline permit will be heard at 9 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Polk County Courthouse. The environmental group filed a petition for judicial review, arguing that the Iowa Utilities Board should not have granted a permit for the project because Dakota Access did not show the oil pipeline was necessary. The group also argues that oil spills could threaten the environment and that the utilities board ignored threats from climate change.
